Wheel position sensor 701/80312 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The wheel position sensor is an inductive proximity sensor that detects whether the wheels are straight on JCB machines with all-wheel steer. It gives a signal when a metal target on the steering cylinder or axle passes in front of it, and the steer mode control unit uses that signal to allow a mode change only with the wheels aligned. A faulty sensor stops the mode changing or lets the wheels drift out of line with each other. Before replacing it, check its cable, connector and gap to the target, since with too large a gap the sensor does not detect the target. If the sensor has an LED indicator, it lights when the target is detected, which makes adjustment easier.
