Camshaft position sensor 320/09524 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The camshaft position sensor detects the camshaft position on electronically controlled diesel engines; the engine control unit uses this signal together with the crankshaft sensor to know which cylinder is on compression and to time the injection correctly. According to sources, 320/09524 is the camshaft position sensor for JCB Dieselmax turbo engines, used on JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. A faulty sensor causes hard or long starting, loss of power or a lit fault lamp. Metal swarf on the sensor tip and oxide in the connector can give similar symptoms, so check them before replacing the sensor. The photo shows an O-ring and a three-pin connector on the sensor body.

Fitting

Before the change, switch off the ignition and let the engine cool. Unplug the connector by pressing its latch, remove the sensor and clean its seat. Fit the O-ring or seal to the new sensor, tighten it to the specified torque and push the connector home until it locks. Start the engine and check the fault lamp does not come on, clearing fault codes with a diagnostic tool if needed.
