The HYDAC SBO series are diaphragm accumulators: a flexible diaphragm divides the steel shell into a nitrogen side and an oil side. Being compact in small volumes, diaphragm accumulators are used in pilot and brake circuits, for damping pressure shocks and for making up small leaks. In the HYDAC code, SBO stands for the diaphragm type, the first number for the permitted working pressure (bar) and the number after the dash for the nominal volume (litres). If the diaphragm is damaged, the accumulator stops working: controls lag in a pilot circuit, and a brake circuit shows a hard pedal or a warning lamp. The accumulator is chosen by the code on its shell and its precharge pressure. The accumulator is chosen by its number or code and its precharge pressure.

Fitting

Before removing the accumulator, stop the engine and release all system pressure by working the control levers several times. Compare the new accumulator's precharge with the value on its label; charge a discharged accumulator only with nitrogen using a proper kit. Renew the connection seal and tighten the accumulator to the specified torque; if the shell is held by a clamp, refit the clamp. After fitting, check that the related circuit works.
