Boom hose burst check valve (HBCV) 25/222559 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB machines.

A hose burst check valve (HBCV) fits on the boom cylinder port and, if a hose bursts or a joint fails, shuts the cylinder line so the boom cannot drop out of control. In the JCB catalogue 25/222559 is the HBCV valve for the boom, while the product card calls the part a boom hydraulic lock. In normal work the valve is opened by a pilot signal from the control lever and lets the boom lower under control. The valve is a safety part, replaced only with a valve of the same number and never adjusted. Before the change, lower the boom to the ground and release the pressure; afterwards hold the boom under load and check that the valve does not leak past. The part is chosen by part number and compared with the old one before fitting.

Fitting

Before changing the valve, release all system pressure, lower any loaded equipment and clean around the valve so no dirt enters the cavity. After removing the old valve, clean the O-ring remains out of the cavity. Oil the new valve's O-rings with clean hydraulic oil, start it by hand and tighten it to the specified torque. With the engine running, test the function first without load, then under load, and check the joint for leaks.

JCB 3CX and 4CX hydraulic circuit diagrams by build year, with component keys

There is no single hydraulic circuit for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loader: it depends on the build year and the pump type. Section E of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-14) gives separate circuits for the gear pump 3CX built before and after September 2007, for the variable flow 4CX (7-spool and 6-spool), and for the 3C-14 (214e) and 3C machines. Below you will find the circuits themselves, the component keys and some notes on tracing the oil flow through a circuit.

On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics).
