Starter to fuse box harness 718/20218 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Starter to fuse box harness 718/20218 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The card also lists 718/20217, 716/30224, 716/30225.

This power harness is the main supply line from the battery connection point on the starter motor to the machine's fuse box. It feeds every consumer in the cab and on the frame, and the alternator current also reaches the battery and circuits through it. The line carries the main fuse and a fuse link that protect the cables against short circuits. When the fuse blows, the machine loses all power; if it blows again, there is a short in the harness or a consumer, and a higher-rated fuse must not be fitted before the cause is found. Corroded lugs and loose nuts cause voltage drop, intermittent loss of power and a hot cable.

Fitting

Before replacement, switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery negative: the positive terminal on the starter is always live while the battery is connected. Route the new harness along the old one's path, secure it with clips and keep it away from the exhaust and sharp edges. Tighten the connection nuts and compare the fuse rating with the old fuse. After reconnecting the battery, check cranking, charging and the cab consumers.
