Battery isolator switch 701/47400 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB machines. The card also lists 6114367M91.
A battery isolator switch cuts the machine's battery circuit in one movement. It stops small consumers draining the battery during long parking, makes work on the electrics safer and switches off every circuit in an emergency such as a fire. Its internal contacts carry all the machine's current, including starter current, so they must be clean and sound. Worn or burnt contacts heat up, cause voltage drop and make the starter crank weakly. Replace the switch if its body is cracked or its terminal nuts work loose. On some machines, small circuits such as a clock or alarm stay wired directly to the battery even with the isolator off, and these are taken into account for long parking. The condition of the isolator contacts can be checked by measuring the voltage drop across its two studs while the starter runs, and a drop of more than a few hundred millivolts shows the contacts are worn.
