Column switch 701/37702 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines. The card also lists 701/46602.

The right-hand column switch controls the lights, indicators and wipers: moving the lever forward and back works the indicators, while its rotating head selects the lights or wiper speeds. Because it is used many times a day, its contacts wear: an indicator may not cancel, the lights may not work in one position or the wiper may fail at one speed. Before replacing the switch, check the fuses, flasher relay and bulbs. After the change, test the indicators, main and dipped beam and wiper speeds one by one. The switch comes new, and the positions of its lever head are marked with symbols.

Fitting

Before the change, switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery negative if needed. Remove the connector by pressing its latch, never by pulling the wires. After fitting the new part, push the clean, dry connector fully home and check that the latch has clicked into place. After reconnecting the battery, check the function and the instrument panel.

JCB 3CX and 4CX wiring diagrams before and after May 2009: sheets and component keys
Section C of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-15) gives the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loader wiring diagram in two versions: one for machines built up to May 2009 with analogue instruments and one for machines from May 2009 with the digital instrument panel. On the earlier machines the main machine circuit takes two sheets, with separate circuits for the gearboxes and options; the later circuit runs to 15 sheets. Below are the main sheets, the component keys and a guide to reading wire numbers.
