Starter solenoid 16915354 for AZF4224 starter, OEM Mahle

OEM starter solenoid 16915354 made by Mahle is for the AZF4224-type 12 V gear-reduction starter. Mahle makes these starters, and the solenoid is the same type as the factory part. There is no product photo yet.

The starter solenoid uses the small current from the key switch to close the heavy-current circuit and at the same time pushes the pinion into the ring gear. Burnt contacts or a failed winding give only a click when the key is turned, no cranking, or a starter that keeps turning after the engine fires. If the starter motor itself is sound, replacing the solenoid is enough. The part is for 12 V AZF4224-type gear-reduction starters.

The solenoid is listed for AZF4224-type starters on JCB 3CX, 4CX and 5CX machines with the Dieselmax engine. An aftermarket solenoid of this type is also available. Starting system parts are in relays and among the starters.

Fitting

Disconnect the battery negative before replacement. The solenoid is held to the starter body by two screws; the plunger and spring go back in place, the copper terminals are cleaned and the cables tightened. If the starter still cranks slowly after the change, check the starter motor itself.
