For the JCB machines: steer mode control relay 728/30000, an aftermarket part.

The unit is screwed down by its two mounting lugs and connects to the harness through a single multi-pin connector. Before the change, check the fuse, wheel position sensors and mode selector switch, since a wrong sensor gap gives the same symptoms. Fit the connector clean and dry. Afterwards, set the wheels straight, select the modes in turn and check that the wheels turn correctly, carrying out the alignment procedure from the manual if needed. The unit is mounted where it is protected from moisture and the direct wash jet, with the connector seal in place. If the wheels often lose alignment, check the wheel position sensor gaps and wiring before replacing the unit, since the sensors are the commonest cause. The unit is chosen by part number. The unit comes new and needs no setting up.

JCB 3CX and 4CX wiring diagrams before and after May 2009: sheets and component keys

Section C of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-15) gives the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loader wiring diagram in two versions: one for machines built up to May 2009 with analogue instruments and one for machines from May 2009 with the digital instrument panel. On the earlier machines the main machine circuit takes two sheets, with separate circuits for the gearboxes and options; the later circuit runs to 15 sheets. Below are the main sheets, the component keys and a guide to reading wire numbers.
