For the JCB machines: hydraulic pump drive shaft 459/50431, an aftermarket part. According to the product card, this is the hydraulic pump drive shaft.

The shaft is chosen by part number, as transmissions of the same family use shafts of different length, spline count and drillings. When the shaft is replaced, also check the gears, bearings and seals that work on it. A shaft with stepped splines, cracks or heat discoloration must not be used; overheating marks point to a lubrication problem, and a new shaft fitted without curing it will also be damaged.

Fitting

On assembly, clean the shaft journals, press the bearings on with a suitable tool and renew the seals. Blow out any oil passages with compressed air. After assembly, fill the transmission or axle with the specified oil and check for noise and leaks in operation. Renew all circlips and washers on the shaft, since they set the axial position of its gears and bearings. During assembly, check that the gears slide on the splines without binding and the bearings are fully seated.
