The rail is chosen by part number for the engine type and fuel system version, as the number of outlets and the sensor and valve seats must match. When the rail is replaced, the high-pressure pipes connected to it are usually renewed too, because their sealing cones, once tightened, may not seat properly in the new rail. Fitting
Before working on a common rail system, stop the engine and wait for the pressure to drop. Clean thoroughly around the joints before opening them and cap every open end. Mount the new rail on its bolts without strain, start the high-pressure pipes by hand and then tighten them to the specified torque. Connect the sensor plug, clear the fault codes, run the engine and check the rail pressure and every joint for leaks.
