The caps and plastic leak-off connections are best renewed whenever the injectors are changed or the caps are removed. Reusing old caps can break their clips and cause leaks. Keeping a few spare caps stops injector servicing being held up. If the cap area is wet with fuel, check first how the cap is seated, then its O-ring; if the cap is sound, inspect the injector's leak-off connection. Even a small leak gradually builds up dirt and fuel on the engine, which makes the leak harder to find and raises the fire risk.

Fitting

Before fitting the cap, clean the injector connection and wet the O-ring with clean fuel. Press the cap on squarely until its clip clicks home, as a cap forced on can crack. After assembly, bleed the system and check the cap for fuel leaks with the engine running. After the first run, wipe the area with a clean cloth and check it again a little later.
