Flywheel ring gear 320/03102, 122 teeth is a genuine JCB part for the JCB Dieselmax 444 engine.

The ring gear is the toothed ring the starter pinion engages; it is shrunk onto the flywheel. Over time the teeth wear or chip: the pinion fails to engage, the starter grinds and sticks. A damaged ring gear also ruins the starter pinion, so it is replaced without delay. Ring gear wear usually comes from long cranking or from the pinion starting to turn before it is fully engaged. A metallic grinding when starting, the starter spinning freely or the engine refusing to crank at one position all call for a check of the ring gear. It is replaced with the flywheel removed from the engine. The tooth count is given in the table.
