4WD engagement solenoid valve 25/105100 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The card also lists 25/974100, 25/101000, 460/34600.

This solenoid valve engages and disengages front axle drive (4WD) in the backhoe loader transmission. According to sources, 25/105100 (25/974100) is the 12 V solenoid valve for the 4WD drop box clutch on JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. When the operator selects 4WD with the cab switch, the solenoid sends oil to the clutch and the front axle joins the drive. A faulty solenoid fails to engage 4WD or keeps it engaged, causing loss of traction on heavy ground or tyre and axle wear on hard surfaces. The solenoid coil works on 12 V.

JCB 3CX and 4CX wiring diagrams before and after May 2009: sheets and component keys

Section C of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-15) gives the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loader wiring diagram in two versions: one for machines built up to May 2009 with analogue instruments and one for machines from May 2009 with the digital instrument panel. On the earlier machines the main machine circuit takes two sheets, with separate circuits for the gearboxes and options; the later circuit runs to 15 sheets. Below are the main sheets, the component keys and a guide to reading wire numbers.
