Tachometer with hour meter 704/50227 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines. The card also lists 704/D7231, 704/50185.

This instrument shows engine speed (tachometer) and total engine running time (hour meter) in one body. The photo shows the needle speed scale, a digital hour display at the bottom and a multi-wire connector at the back; the product card lists it under the numbers 704/50227, 704/D7231 and 704/50185. Engine hours are the basic measure for service intervals (oil, filters, belts), so a working meter keeps servicing on time. The tachometer shows whether the engine is running at the right speed. When the instrument is replaced, note the new meter reading and the date of change in the service records.

Fitting

Disconnect the battery negative before the change. Take the instrument out of the panel, unplug it, connect the new one to the same connector and fix it. With the ignition on, check that the illumination lights, and with the engine running that the speed reading and hour count work. The part comes new; before fitting, compare its part number and connection type with the old part. After the change, check the function and the warnings on the instrument panel.
