For the JCB machines: fuel level gauge 704/50098, a genuine JCB part.
If the fuel gauge reads wrongly, check the level sender in the tank and its float first, since a stuck float makes the gauge read empty even with a full tank. Check the earth of the sender wire as well. The gauge is fixed from behind the panel and its illumination bulb fits a separate holder. The gauge is chosen by part number, diameter and compatibility with the sender. Water in the fuel tank harms not only the engine but also the level sender contacts, so keep the tank cap seal sound and fill from clean containers. The gauge comes new. When the ignition is switched on, the needle settles at the real level within a few seconds.
