Transmission oil pump 6190852M91 is an aftermarket part for the Terex and Massey Ferguson backhoe loaders.

The transmission pump sends oil under pressure to the clutch packs, torque converter and lubrication circuit of a powershift or powershuttle gearbox. It is driven from the torque converter hub whenever the engine runs. The pump's pressure makes the clutches lock fully; when pressure is too low the clutch plates slip, overheat and wear fast. Signs of a worn pump are a machine that drives normally when cold but pulls weakly when hot, delayed gear engagement, overheating transmission oil and sometimes a whine from the pump. When these appear, first check the oil level, filter and suction strainer, then measure the pressure. Pump pressure is measured with both cold and hot oil; a big difference between them indicates internal leakage.

Fitting

The pump is removed by separating the gearbox from the engine or opening the gearbox cover; clean the mating faces and use a new gasket or O-ring. Align the pump drive with the converter hub and tighten the bolts in a cross pattern to the specified torque. After assembly, top up the transmission oil, run the engine at idle to let the pump prime, then measure the line and clutch pressures with a gauge. Check for leaks and unusual noise.
