Transmission bearing 907/20000 JCB, aftermarket

A bearing is chosen by inside and outside diameter and width, as well as by roller type, contact angle and clearance class. A bearing of the same size but a different clearance class can upset the gearbox setting, so it is chosen by part number. On taper bearings the cone and cup must match: a new cone is never run in an old cup. A bearing with flaking, discolouration or dents on its raceways is replaced even if it is not yet noisy. Handle the bearing only with clean hands.

Fitting

When one bearing is changed, the opposite bearing on the same shaft is checked too and they are usually replaced as a pair. Inspect the bearing seats and shaft journals for wear or signs of spinning: if a ring has spun in its seat, do not fit a new bearing until the seat is repaired. After assembly, fill the gearbox with oil, check noise and heat on a short test drive and do the first oil change early.
