For the JCB machines: transmission / axle output flange 459/70138, an OEM part.

The output flange fits on the splined end of the gearbox output shaft or axle pinion and connects the propshaft to it. Its splined hub is clamped by a nut, and the outside of the hub is the running surface for the shaft seal. A flange with worn splines develops play and knocks when moving off, and if a groove has worn where the seal runs, a new seal will soon leak too. Rust or knocks on the flange surface cut the seal lip, so the seal running surface must be smooth.

Fitting

Before the change, park the machine on firm ground and chock the wheels. Undo the propshaft bolts and support the shaft so it does not hang. With the nut off, pull the flange, fit the new seal with a mandrel and seat the flange. Replace the nut with a new one and tighten it to the manual value; after reconnecting the propshaft, check for vibration in operation.
