Gear shift lever assembly 332/Y0161 is a genuine JCB part for the JCB machines.

The shift lever assembly transmits the operator's movement of the lever in the cab to the gear selection mechanism in the gearbox. It is made up of the lever, linkage joints, spring and ball detents and a dust boot, and makes the lever sit positively in every gear position. On gearboxes with mechanical selection it moves the selector forks directly, while with electric controls it operates the position switches. A worn assembly lets the lever go slack, gears engage only partly or jump out, or the wrong gear gets selected, which harms both the gears and safe operation. The assembly also closes the opening in the cab floor, so a torn boot lets dust and noise into the cab.

Fitting

Before the change, stop the machine on level ground, apply the parking brake and put the gearbox in neutral. Remove the old assembly, marking the connections and position, fit the new one in the same position and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, using a new gasket or boot. After assembly, check that the lever moves easily into every position and locates positively; with electric controls, check that the gear indicator reads correctly. Finally, test the machine at low speed in every gear.
