Drive clutch piston 445/M6092 JCB, genuine

For the JCB machines: drive clutch piston 445/M6092, a genuine JCB part. According to the product card, this piston is used in the transmission drive clutch; the card also lists 445/15701.

The piston is chosen by part number for the gearbox type and clutch pack, as the forward, reverse and range clutches of one gearbox may use different pistons. When changing the piston, check its seals, the return springs, the drum bore and the thickness of the plate pack. Once the pack is assembled, test the piston movement with low-pressure air. If the piston returns slowly or sticks, check the strength of the return springs and the drum bore. The piston seals are renewed at every repair.

Fitting

On assembly, wet the piston seals with clean transmission oil and push the piston into the drum squarely without cutting the seals. Fit the return springs and retaining circlip using a suitable press. Soak the plates in oil, stack them in order and measure the pack clearance. After the gearbox is assembled, check the clutch pressures with a gauge. In the first hours after the repair, watch the transmission oil temperature and level, and do the first oil and filter change earlier than usual.
