Converter drive plate 04/501700 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines.
The drive plate is a thin, flexible steel disc that connects the engine flywheel to the torque converter. While passing engine torque to the converter, it flexes to absorb crankshaft end movement and small misalignments, protecting the converter and transmission pump from extra load. Working under changing loads and vibration, the plate can crack around its bolt holes over time. Signs of a cracked plate are a metallic tick at idle and when moving off, knocking under load and vibration. A broken plate cuts the drive completely and can damage the flywheel housing. Cracks in the drive plate usually start at the bolt holes and are easy to see on a cleaned surface with a light behind it. These areas are inspected every time the gearbox comes off, since even a small crack can lead to the plate breaking before the next service. The plate is also kept free of oil leaks, as oil and dirt can hide cracks.

Compatibility
According to the product card, 04/501700 is a converter drive plate. Fit is confirmed by the part number. Other parts are in Transmission.
Fitting
The plate is changed once the gearbox is separated from the engine. Clean the flywheel and converter mating faces, fit the plate the right way round and tighten new bolts, with reinforcing washers if fitted, in a cross pattern to the specified torque. Use the thread locker the maker specifies. After assembly, run the engine and check there is no ticking or vibration.
