For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: slew cylinder barrel 559/70191, an aftermarket part.

The bore, length, port positions and eye of a barrel are specific to the cylinder, so the barrel is chosen by part number and compared with the old one. Before assembly, clean the bore and oil it with clean hydraulic oil, since a scratch in it will damage the new seals. The rod taken from the old cylinder must be straight with its chrome intact, and the seal grooves of the piston and gland must be cleaned. When the gland goes into the barrel, guide the seals past the threads and edges without catching them. The aftermarket barrel comes painted; its ports and bore are protected in transit, and the caps stay on until assembly. Check the union threads and seals of the pipe on the barrel as well, since a damaged union will leak even with a new barrel. The aftermarket barrel is made to the dimensions of the original barrel under this number and fits in place of the old one without modification. Choose the barrel by part number and compare it with the old one.

Compatibility

The barrel belongs to the slew cylinder that swings the backhoe; the photo shows its threaded end. Other parts are in JCB hydraulic cylinders.

Fitting

Do not use sharp tools when fitting the seals; fitting cones and clean oil help the seals go in without damage. Check the lip direction of the new seals against the old ones, since a seal fitted the wrong way round leaks at the first pressure.

JCB 3CX and 4CX Dipper Ram Creep: Causes, Ram Creep Tests and Repair
If the dipper of a JCB 3CX or 4CX backhoe loader drops on its own under load, there are three possible causes: a leaking piston seal in the ram, spool leakage in the excavator valve section, or a leaking auxiliary relief valve (ARV) in that section. The JCB service manual gives a test procedure that identifies the culprit before the ram is removed and stripped. Below are the test sequence, the permitted creep and the repair rules from Section E of service manual 9803/3290.

JCB 3CX / 4CX Hydraulic Pressure: Settings, Pressure Testing and Causes of Low Pressure
On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics). It is checked with a 0–400 bar pressure gauge connected to the loader valve test point, with the engine at 1500 rev/min and the oil warmed to 50 °C. Below are the settings, the test procedure and the reasons why pressure drops, taken from the JCB service manual (Section E).

JCB 3CX / 4CX Hydraulics: Circuit Diagrams, Pumps and Relief Valve Pressures
Section E of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-14) deals with the hydraulic system of the JCB 3C, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. It brings together technical data for the pumps and valve blocks, hydraulic circuits for machines of different build years, valve operation, fault finding tables, and the procedures for pressure testing and for overhauling the pump, valves and rams. The section PDF runs to 302 pages.

Cylinder drift on a JCB 3CX/4CX: the cylinder, the spool or the ARV
If the boom or bucket creeps down under load, oil is escaping from the «locked» side of a cylinder. There are three causes: a worn piston seal, leakage past the control valve spool, or a leaking auxiliary relief valve (ARV). Here is how to find the culprit before buying parts and how much drift is normal. The data comes from the JCB service manual for 3C, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.
