Cylinder gland nut 594/00120 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The gland nut screws into the cylinder barrel and holds the rod gland in place, closing the open end of the cylinder. It is removed with a special spanner when the seals are changed at a rebuild; a nut with damaged threads or a crack stops the gland seating and causes leaks. The nut size is set by the cylinder bore and type, so it is chosen by part number. The nut is steel and is supplied new. The nut size and thread suit the barrel; compare the part number with the old nut. The nut is new and unused. Keep the nut boxed.

Fitting

Clean and lightly oil the threads; start the nut by hand and tighten it to the service manual torque. After fitting the locking device, run the cylinder through its full stroke a few times and check around the gland for leaks.

On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics).
