For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: cylinder gland nut 594/14300, an aftermarket part.

If the gland nut works loose, the gland moves in the barrel and the rod seal soon fails, so the locking screw or device must always be fitted. When replacing the nut, check the barrel threads too, as a worn barrel thread will not hold the new nut either. Using the wrong tool ruins the nut's slots, so use a proper slotted spanner. The nut is made of steel and is supplied new. The nut can be replaced together with the seal kit at a cylinder rebuild; keep its threads clean. Protect the nut slots in transit. Protect the threads.

Fitting

Clean and lightly oil the threads; start the nut by hand and tighten it to the service manual torque. After fitting the locking device, run the cylinder through its full stroke a few times and check around the gland for leaks.

On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics).
