Front crankshaft seal 02/101435 Perkins, aftermarket

Front crankshaft seal 02/101435 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins 4.236, 1000 and 1100 series engines. The card also lists 2418F437, 288-0422, 4W-5359, 10000-04364.

The crankshaft seal keeps the engine oil in where the shaft leaves the block: the rear seal at the flywheel end, the front seal at the pulley end. A hardened or worn seal leaks: at the rear towards the clutch and flywheel housing, at the front onto the pulley and belt. Oil on the belt makes it slip, and the alternator and water pump work less well. The seal is a tight fit in the block or cover by its outer edge, and its inner lip rests on the turning shaft, pressed by a garter spring. Once it leaks, the oil level drops steadily and dirt sticks to the engine. Replacing the rear seal means removing the flywheel and separating the transmission, so the other parts at the flywheel end are checked at the same time.

Fitting
