Front crankshaft seal 320/03119 JCB Dieselmax, genuine

For the JCB Dieselmax 444 and 448 engines: front crankshaft seal 320/03119, a genuine JCB part.

The seal lip wears a track in the shaft over time; a new seal running on the same track can soon leak. So the seal may be fitted at a slightly different depth, or at the rear a carrier that renews the running surface is used. A blocked crankcase breather also pushes seals out. The seal is a tight fit in the block or cover by its outer edge, and its inner lip rests on the turning shaft, pressed by a garter spring. Once it leaks, the oil level drops steadily and dirt sticks to the engine. Replacing the rear seal means removing the flywheel and separating the transmission, so the other parts at the flywheel end are checked at the same time.

Fitting

Remove the old seal without damaging the housing, then clean and inspect the shaft surface. Lightly oil the lip of the new seal and drive it in square with a suitable tool. After assembly, run the engine and check around the seal for leaks.
