Bottom engine gasket set 320/09383 is an aftermarket set for lower-engine work on the SB version of the JCB Dieselmax 444. The card numbers are 320/09281, 320/09298 and 320/09218; the photo shows the O-rings and seals on a fitting card.

The bottom gasket set holds the seals of the lower engine: O-rings, oil seals and gaskets for the sump and front cover. It is used for crankshaft, bearing or oil pump work that needs the sump removed, and for curing oil leaks from below. A leak usually shows as oil traces on the sump joint, drips under the engine and a falling oil level. Contents can differ between engine versions, so compare the parts in the pack with the gaskets removed.

Compatibility

Fitting

Before fitting, the joint faces are cleaned completely of old gasket and sealant; bolts are tightened in a cross pattern to JCB torque. Engine oil and the oil filter are changed after assembly. For the cylinder head side use the SB top gasket set.

JCB Dieselmax Engine in the JCB 3CX / 4CX: Builds, Technical Data and Servicing

Section K of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-14) deals with the installation of the JCB Dieselmax engine in JCB 3C, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. It gives the technical data for each engine build, the cold start heater electrics with their fault codes and the operation of the viscous fan coupling, together with the removal procedures for the radiator, expansion tank, fuel injection pump and the engine itself. The PDF runs to 30 pages.
