Exhaust silencer 331/50774 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Exhaust silencer 331/50774 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The card also lists 331/40186.

The silencer damps the exhaust pressure pulses in its internal chambers and reduces engine noise. A silencer rusted from inside or with broken baffles is louder, changes exhaust back pressure and can cost power on turbo engines. A hole or cracked seam in the casing lets exhaust leak. The silencer body is welded from sheet steel and coated with heat-resistant paint. It works in the hot engine bay under constant vibration, so the brackets and weld seams can crack over time. Soot and condensation inside start corrosion from within. On turbo engines the turbo itself damps part of the noise, so the turbo version's silencer has a different internal layout. The silencer is supplied new.

Fitting

Recheck the fixings after the first few hours of work. Check the other gaskets and studs in the exhaust line as well. Check the silencer brackets for cracks and renew worn rubber mounts.
