Foot brake proximity switch 701/80398 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines.

This part is an inductive proximity switch that detects the brake pedal position on JCB machines. According to sources, 701/80398 is the foot brake proximity switch used on JCB Loadall telehandlers; the product card lists it as a brake light switch under the number 71/80398. When the pedal is pressed, a metal target comes in front of the sensor, which signals and lights the brake lamps; on some machines the signal is also used in transmission control. A faulty sensor leaves the brake lamps dark or permanently lit. Brake lamps show following traffic that the machine is slowing, so a sensor fault is not put off. If the sensor has an LED indicator, it lights when the pedal is pressed, which makes adjustment easier.

Fitting

The sensor screws into its bracket by its threaded body and is locked by two lock nuts, the gap to the target being set by turning the nuts. Too large a gap and the sensor misses the target; too small and the target can strike the tip. Secure the cable with ties away from moving parts and test the function.

JCB 3CX and 4CX wiring diagrams before and after May 2009: sheets and component keys
Section C of the JCB service manual (publication 9803/3290-15) gives the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loader wiring diagram in two versions: one for machines built up to May 2009 with analogue instruments and one for machines from May 2009 with the digital instrument panel. On the earlier machines the main machine circuit takes two sheets, with separate circuits for the gearboxes and options; the later circuit runs to 15 sheets. Below are the main sheets, the component keys and a guide to reading wire numbers.
