For the JCB machines: column switch 701/80145, an aftermarket part. The card also lists 701/71900.
A column switch is a lever switch mounted on the steering column that lets the operator control the main functions without taking a hand off the wheel. Contacts inside the switch open and close the relevant circuits according to the lever position, and it connects to the machine's electrics through a connector at the end of its harness. Worn contacts make a function drop out now and then or fail to respond in one position, while a broken lever or loose mounting leaves the lever position uncertain. Before replacing the switch, check the fuses and relays; if the fault is not there, the switch is replaced. If the return spring weakens, the lever no longer returns to its centre position by itself.

Compatibility
According to sources, this is the forward/reverse column switch for machines with a Powershift transmission; 701/80145 and 701/71900 are interchangeable. The catalogue also has the aftermarket version of this part. Other parts are in Switches.
Fitting
After fitting, secure the harness with ties so it does not touch moving parts or hot surfaces, since a chafed wire loses its insulation and causes a short circuit.
