Starter armature 320/09452 is an OEM part made by Mahle for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The armature is the rotating part of the starter motor: it carries the windings and commutator and, fed through the brushes, creates a magnetic field that produces torque. The photo shows the wound core, copper commutator, the gear on the shaft end and a bearing. A worn commutator, a shorted or broken winding or bearing play makes the starter turn slowly, overheat or not turn at all. Replacing the armature renews just this part instead of the whole starter, and the brushes and bearings are then checked too. Fitting

Replacing the armature means removing and dismantling the starter, so the work is done in a workshop experienced in starter repair. Keep the commutator clean, renew the brushes if they are short and fit the bearings with grease. Test the starter after assembly.
