Dowel ring 448/26303 JCB Loadall, aftermarket

Dowel ring 448/26303 is an aftermarket part for the JCB Loadall telehandlers. This part is a dowel ring used in the axle trunnion mounting.

A hollow dowel (bush) makes sure axle parts join in the correct position relative to each other and centres them where a bolt passes through it. In heavily loaded joints such as the knuckle and hub, dowels take shear load off the bolts and stop the parts shifting. A worn or crushed dowel can cause play in the joint, loose bolts and oil leaks. The dowel must seat fully in its bore.

According to sources, 448/26303 is a 21 x 30 x 16 mm dowel ring used in the axle trunnion mounting of JCB 526, 527, 530 and 540 telehandlers. Other parts are in Rear axle.

Fitting

Dowels are inspected whenever the joint is dismantled and renewed if crushed, burred or worn. Tap the new dowel gently and squarely into its bore and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. The dowel is chosen by part number, since its diameter and length decide the accuracy of the joint. The dowel comes new; clean its bore before fitting and check that no burrs remain. Look over the joint's bolts and washers too. Clean and deburr the holes before fitting the dowel or ring.
