Drain plug sealing washer 05/903803 is an aftermarket part for the JCB JS crawler excavators.

The sealing washer fits under the drain and level plugs of a reduction gearbox or planetary hub and seals the joint between plug and casing. When the plug is tightened, the washer crushes slightly and fills small surface irregularities, so a washer that has already been crushed does not seal as well when retightened. A plug refitted with an old washer slowly leaks, the gearbox oil level falls and the gears and bearings can run short of oil. On tracked machines, low oil in the travel and swing gearboxes usually ends in an expensive gearbox repair. The washer material and size must suit the plug thread; copper, aluminium and rubber-bonded steel washers are not interchangeable.

Fitting

Renew the washer at every oil change and whenever the plug is removed. Before fitting, clean the plug and casing face, seat the washer squarely and tighten the plug to the specified torque, since overtightening cuts the washer. After filling with oil, wipe the area dry and check for leaks after the first work.
