For the JCB JS crawler excavators: track idler JBA0129, an aftermarket part.

The idler may be supplied as a complete assembly with its support brackets (sliding blocks) or as the wheel only; the length and shape of the brackets depend on the machine type. Wear is assessed by measuring the tread height and flange width. When the idler is replaced, check the recoil spring and tensioning cylinder too, since a leaking cylinder slackens the track and wears the new idler quickly.

Fitting

For the change, slacken the track by releasing grease through the tensioning cylinder valve and split the track. Slide the new idler with its supports into place, check the shims and confirm the idler turns freely. After refitting the track, pump grease into the tensioning cylinder and set the track sag to the value in the service manual. Assess the chain and sprocket for wear along with the idler, since a worn chain quickly damages the flanges and tread of a new idler.

JCB JS200–JS260 Track Tension: How to Check the Sag and Adjust the Tracks

Track tension on the JCB JS200, JS210, JS220, JS240 and JS260 tracked excavators should be checked every shift. With the track raised off the ground, the gap between the underside of the track frame and the top of the track shoe at the fourth bottom roller from the front should be 275–295 mm on hard ground and 320–340 mm on soft sand and sticky clay. Tension is adjusted with grease through the valve on the track adjuster cylinder. The procedure below follows Section 3 of JCB service manual 9803/6400.
