Taper bearing (trunnion / pinion) 907/08300 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. According to the product card, this taper bearing is used in the knuckle trunnions and on the pinion.

Signs of axle bearing wear are a whine or hum that grows under load or at idle, play felt at the wheel or flange, the axle casing running hotter than usual and oil leaking past the seals. Bearing life depends largely on the cleanliness and level of the axle oil, since water-contaminated or low oil causes pitting on the roller and ring surfaces. The axle oil is changed with the type and at the interval the maker specifies.

Compatibility

According to sources, 907/08300 (907/M5375) is an HM89449/HM89410 taper roller bearing, found as a pinion and trunnion bearing on JCB 2CX-5CX backhoe loaders, telehandlers, wheeled excavators and Fastracs. The catalogue also has the aftermarket version (option 1), aftermarket version (option 2) and genuine version of this part. Other parts are in Bearings.

Fitting

The bearing is changed in clean conditions; take the new bearing out of its packaging only at fitting and do not wipe off the protective oil. Press it into its housing or onto its shaft only with a suitable driver and only through the ring that has the interference fit; the rollers and cage must never be struck. On taper roller bearings the cone and the cup are replaced together. After fitting, set the bearing preload or clearance by the method in the machine's service manual and top up the axle oil to the specified level.

JCB 3CX / 4CX Rear Axle Overheating: Causes and What to Check
The rear axle of a JCB 3CX or 4CX backhoe loader runs hotter than the front axle by design: it houses the oil-immersed service brakes, one multi-plate brake pack on each half shaft. A warm axle casing after a shift is therefore normal. It becomes a concern when the axle gets very hot after an ordinary road run, the machine feels as if it is dragging, there is a smell of burnt oil from the axle, or oil starts leaking past the seals. The usual cause is brake drag: the service brakes or the park brake are not releasing fully. Below, based on the JCB service manual, is what to check and in what order.
