Transmission spacer 823/10355 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines.
A spacer sets the distance between gears, bearings and clutch parts on a shaft and fixes their axial position. A spacer of the right thickness makes the gears mesh across their full width and the bearings run with the correct preload. A worn or wrong spacer causes end float, edge contact between gears, noise and early bearing failure. Spacers are usually made of hardened steel with ground faces, so they keep their shape under high axial load. Heat discolouration, scratches or wear on a spacer show that the neighbouring gear or bearing needs checking too, as such marks usually come from lubrication trouble or overload.

Compatibility
According to the product card, 823/10355 is a spacer. Fit is confirmed by the part number. Other parts are in Transmission.
Fitting
On assembly, oil the spacer with clean transmission oil and slide it onto the shaft squarely. Once the parts on the shaft are assembled, measure the end float with a dial gauge and compare it with the manual value, adjusting with a spacer of another thickness or shims if needed. In the first hours after the repair, watch the transmission oil temperature and level, and do the first oil and filter change earlier than usual.
