Transmission clutch disc 445/12307 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines. The product card gives this as a transmission clutch disc.

In Powershift and shuttle transmissions the clutch packs are made of friction plates stacked alternately with steel counter plates, and when a hydraulic piston squeezes the pack the gear or direction engages. Worn plates cause clutch slip, late gear changes, overheated transmission oil and a burning smell. The life of a clutch pack depends on the cleanliness of the transmission oil and on the operator stopping the machine before changing direction.

Fitting

Soak new friction plates in clean transmission oil before fitting. Stack the plates in their original order and check the pack clearance against the service manual. After assembly, fill the transmission with the specified oil and test the gear changes under light load. The plates come new and are stored in their packaging in a dry, clean place. Before fitting, check that they are flat, their teeth free of burrs and the friction surface undamaged. Inspect the clutch piston, return springs and the slots in the clutch drum the plates slide in, since stepped slots stop the plates moving freely and make the clutch drag. After the repair, measure the transmission pressures to the service manual.
