Needle bearing (transmission) 917/02600 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines.
A needle bearing is made up of many thin cylindrical rollers (needles) and carries high loads in a small radial height. In transmissions it sits under gears that turn freely on the shaft, in clutch drums and in gear hubs; in the caged type the needles are held evenly spaced in a cage. Axial (thrust) needle bearings carry the axial force on the side of a gear. A worn needle bearing lets the gear rock and causes noise and early tooth wear. A whine from the gearbox heard only in certain gears often points to a worn needle bearing under that gear's free-running gear. Caught early, replacing just the bearing can save the gear and shaft. When the gearbox is cleaned after a failure, the oil passages are checked too, as a blocked lubrication hole leaves the bearing without oil.

Compatibility
According to the product card, 917/02600 is a needle bearing. Fit is confirmed by the part number. The catalogue also has the aftermarket version and genuine version of this part. Other parts are in Transmission.
Fitting
To change the bearing, take the gear and shaft out of the gearbox and clean and inspect the shaft track and gear bore. Oil the new needle bearing with transmission oil and push it onto the shaft by hand without force; fit thrust bearings with their washers the right way round. Once the gear is on, check that it turns freely without play; after the gearbox is assembled and filled, listen to it on a test drive.
