For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: loader lift cylinder 557/60078, 50x90 mm, an aftermarket part. The card also lists 557/60141, 557/60237, 557/60234.

Bore, rod diameter, stroke and mounting eyes are set by the machine, so the cylinder is chosen by part number. Replacing the whole cylinder is the fastest fix when a rebuild does not pay — when the barrel is scored, the rod is bent or the chrome is peeling. Check the mounting pins and bushes when replacing it. This cylinder is the second aftermarket option for the same number, with the same stroke, bore and mounting eyes. It is supplied new; keep the port caps on until connection so no dirt gets in. The cylinder comes painted. The cylinder is heavy. The cylinder ports are capped. The machine serial number can be given when ordering.

Fitting

Before removal, lower the arm to the ground or prop it and relieve pressure; cap the hoses. Fit the new cylinder on its pins and connect the hoses, then run it through its full stroke a few times unloaded to purge air and check the oil level.

JCB 3CX / 4CX Hydraulic Pressure: Settings, Pressure Testing and Causes of Low Pressure

On JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders with a gear pump, the working pressure of the hydraulic system is limited by the main relief valve in the loader valve: 236–241 bar on machines up to serial number 964124 and 248–252 bar on machines from serial number 964125 (standard and high-pressure hydraulics).
