For the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders: dipper cylinder rod, 60 mm 590/40136, an aftermarket part.

Rod dimensions (diameter, length and eye) are set by the cylinder type, so the rod is chosen by part number. When the rod is replaced, the rod seal, wiper and piston seals are renewed too. Protect the chrome from knocks in transport and fitting, since even a small nick cuts the seal. This rod is the second aftermarket option for the same number, with the same diameter, length and eye. It is supplied new. When replacing it, check the seal and bush seat in the gland for scoring, as a damaged gland ruins the new rod's surface. The rod is heavy and is carried with its chrome surface protected. Protect the chrome until fitting. The rod must be straight. The rod is chosen by part number, and its diameter, length and end fitting are compared with the old rod. Protect the rod surface from knocks during fitting and renew the gland seals. The rod is chosen by part number.

Fitting

Fit the rod at a cylinder rebuild together with a new seal kit; slide the gland and seals onto the oiled rod and tighten the piston fixing to the specified torque. After assembly, run the cylinder through its full stroke unloaded to purge air.
