Steering control unit 332/G5650 JCB 3CX/4CX, aftermarket

Steering control unit 332/G5650 is an aftermarket part for the JCB 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders.

The unit's ports (P, T, L, R and LS) are marked on the body, and connecting the hoses wrongly makes the steering work backwards or lock. The unit bolts to the steering column by its flange, and its shaft engages the steering shaft by splines. The aftermarket unit matches the original in displacement, ports and connection sizes, so it fits the same hoses and column. After the swap, check the wheel turns the same number of turns lock to lock in each direction; a difference points to wrongly connected hoses or air in the system. Being able to turn the wheel, even with effort, with the engine stopped confirms the gerotor's hand-pump function. The unit is supplied new. The aftermarket unit is supplied new with its ports capped and the shaft splines protected by a cap. The part number is on the unit label; compare it with the old unit's label when ordering. Fitting

Note the hoses against the port markings, then remove and cap them; fit the new unit to the column and connect the hoses to the same ports. Start the engine, turn the steering fully both ways several times and purge the air. Then check self-centring and sealing.
