The injector is chosen by part number for the engine type and version, as injectors that look the same can differ in the number and angle of nozzle holes and in flow. Electronic injectors carry a correction (trim/IMA) code, which is entered into the engine control unit with a service tool when a new injector is fitted; otherwise fuel delivery between cylinders will be uneven. When one injector fails, it is worth testing the others too. Injectors can be checked on a test bench for delivery, leak-off and tightness, and this test also shows whether the injector can be repaired. Fitting

Before removing the injector, clean around it, disconnect the fuel lines and connector and cap the open connections. Always remove the old copper washer from the well. Fit the new injector with a new washer and O-rings and tighten the clamp and the high-pressure line nut to the specified torque, connecting the high-pressure pipes without strain. After assembly, bleed the fuel system, run the engine and check for leaks, smooth idle and smoke; on electronic systems, enter the injector code.
