The cleanliness of the transmission oil directly affects how smoothly gear and direction changes happen: in contaminated oil the control valve spools can stick and the clutches engage late or harshly. When the filter clogs, its bypass valve opens and oil circulates unfiltered, sending wear particles back to the gears and bearings. The filter is therefore always renewed at a transmission oil change, chosen by part number so its thread and seal diameter match the old one.

Fitting

The change is made with the engine stopped and the machine on level ground, collecting the oil in a container. After fitting, start the engine, check for leaks around the filter and top up the oil level. Use only transmission oil of the type and viscosity the gearbox maker recommends, since the wrong oil can make the clutches slip or engage harshly. Record the date and engine hours of the change in the service log.
