In air-conditioned cabs the filter sits in front of the evaporator and stops its fins becoming coated with dust; a dusty evaporator both cools less efficiently and can cause bad smells and mould. The filter is chosen by part number so its dimensions and frame type match the old one, since a smaller filter lets air bypass it. Blowing it out with compressed air can tear the paper, so a dirty filter is replaced. The filter comes new and is kept in its packaging.

Fitting

The cab filter usually sits behind a cover outside the cab or inside it, at the heater unit's air intake. Open the cover, remove the old filter carefully and clean its seat without spilling dust into the cab. Fit the new filter according to the airflow arrow on its frame and close the cover. After the change, run the fan and check the air flow. The seal or foam edge around the cab filter seat stops dust bypassing the filter, and a worn seal is renewed. When changing the filter, clean the dust from the fan wheel and air ducts too.
