Piston ring set UPRK0005B, +0.50 mm is an aftermarket part for the Perkins 1104 series engine.

The ring set for one piston has three rings: the top compression ring, the second ring and the oil control ring. The compression rings stop combustion gas escaping into the crankcase, and the oil ring scrapes excess oil off the bore. Worn rings show as blue smoke, oil consumption, low compression and blow-by from the breather. After a ring change, watch the oil consumption and exhaust smoke during the first working hours. The top face of the compression rings is marked; a ring fitted upside down pumps oil into the combustion chamber. A ring set is for one piston; an engine needs one set per cylinder.

The part is listed for machines with Perkins engines. The set is +0.50 mm oversize (105.5 mm) for bores with a 105 mm standard size. Other parts are in Perkins engine.

Fitting

The rings must move freely in their grooves, so clean the grooves of old carbon. Push the piston into the bore with a ring compressor. When changing rings, also check the head gasket and big-end bearings. Measure the ring gap in the bore and stagger the gaps around the piston. Fit the rings with ring pliers.
