Cylinder head gasket 236-1003210B5 is an aftermarket part for the JCB machines.

The head gasket separates the combustion chambers, oil passages and coolant passages between block and head. When it fails, coolant is lost, bubbles appear in the radiator, oil and water mix, white smoke comes from the exhaust and the engine overheats. The gasket is single-use and is renewed whenever the head comes off. Thickness can be chosen by piston protrusion, so the gasket is identified by part number. The usual causes of head gasket failure are overheating, a wrong tightening sequence or torque and reused head bolts; unless they are cleared, a new gasket soon fails too. After overheating, the head is checked for flatness and skimmed if needed. The marks on a failed gasket show which cylinder and which passage the leak came from.

Fitting

Clean the block and head faces and check them for flatness; fit the gasket dry and the right way up. Tighten the head bolts in the service manual sequence and torque. Renew the coolant and oil after assembly. Renewing the head bolts is recommended.
