Piston cooling jet 02/202908 is an aftermarket part for the Perkins 1104 (RG) engine. The card also lists D2113A003, 10000-01165.

The piston cooling jet takes oil from the block gallery and sprays it under the piston, cooling the crown and lubricating the gudgeon pin. A blocked, bent or displaced jet leads to an overheated piston, stuck rings and a burnt crown. Jet shape and spray direction are set by the engine, and the wrong jet can strike the piston. Dirty oil is the most common cause of blockage. Cooling jets reduce the thermal load on the pistons, especially on turbo engines; the cooler the crown, the longer the rings last. There is one jet per cylinder. The jet is small, but its failure leads to costly results such as piston damage, so jets are always checked during an overhaul. The jet is steel, and its shape is defined by the part number. The jet mounting face must be clean.

Fitting

Fit the jet with the piston removed and tighten its bolt to the specified torque. Turn the crankshaft by hand to check the piston clears the jet, and watch oil pressure on first start. The jet is supplied new.
