The liner sits in its bore in the block and is located by its top flange; flange protrusion above the block face matters for correct head gasket compression. Replacing all four liners gives the cylinders the same diameter and condition. The hone pattern inside the liner is needed for the rings to bed in. When a liner is replaced, the piston and rings are renewed too; an old piston will not bed in properly in a new liner. The liner diameter is chosen to suit the piston; liner and piston must be in the same size group. Liners are changed in a workshop with the block stripped.

Fitting

After the liners are fitted, measure each bore at three levels. Pistons and rings are chosen to suit the new liners, and the head bolts and gasket are renewed too.
