Cylinder head gasket 02/203176 Perkins RG, genuine

For the Perkins 1104 (RG) engine: cylinder head gasket 02/203176, a genuine JCB part. The card also lists 3681E051, 916-535.

Head gasket thickness can be chosen by piston protrusion, so the gasket is selected for the engine and by part number. The usual causes of failure are overheating, wrong tightening or reused bolts; unless they are cleared, a new gasket soon fails as well. The multi-layer steel gasket is made to withstand combustion pressure and heat; fine beads seal when compressed. That is why the gasket is single-use and is always renewed when the head comes off. Scratches on the faces or old gasket residue stop the new one seating.

Fitting

Clean the faces, fit the gasket dry and the right way up, and tighten the head bolts in the sequence and angle-torque given in the service manual. Renewing the head bolts is recommended. Oil the head bolts before fitting them.
